After heavy rain the conditions of the first Round of the European Enduro-Championship in Gouveia / Portugal changes over night. But the track switched into a good shape on Sunday, April 30th.

Without the dust and without the juniors advantage to find a smooth, not used track in the first lap, the Italian Oscar Balletti from the senior E3-class took the overall win in front of the reigning champion of the senior E3 class, his countryman Maurizio Micheluz.

De eerste EK van 2017 werd op 29 en 30 april georganiseerd in het Portugese Gouveia. Ter hoogte van Porto maar in het fraaie binnenland tegen het natuurpark Serra de Estrela aan. In 2008 en 2010 werd vlakbij gereden in Oliveira do Hospital en Henk Knuiman werd daar in 2010 Europees kampioen bij de 40+ op de stenen en door het stof wat ontstaat als je op de droge kleipaadjes door de toplaag heen breekt.
In Gouveia werd twee keer een WK gehouden en de laatste in 2016 was totaal verregend! Kortom, het kon interessant worden voor de zes Nederlandse deelnemers.

FIM Europe Enduro-Championship: 1st day in Goueiva / Portugal

Espinasse_Theophile_F_Sherco_[overall]On 29th of April 2017 the European Enduro-Championship starts in Gouveia / Portugal in the new season.
On the demanding track, between rocks and stones an a lot of dust, the french junior-rider Theophile Espinasse took the first victory on the first day. The Sherco-rider won all the first five tests and coul go save on the last one – still finishing 25.6 seconds in front of the Italien Oscar Balletti.
This one had the benefit from the technical problems of Anthony Geslin – the French was second until he was one minute late at the timecheck, after his mechanics could not solve the problem in time. This for the Beta-rider drops down to 14th position.

MATT PHILLIPS COMPLETES PERFECT ENDUROGP OF SPAIN WITH DAY TWO VICTORY

Eero REMES (SF - TM)Pushed every step of the way by both Christophe Nambotin (KTM) and Steve Holcombe (Beta), Matt Phillips (Sherco) brought his participation in the AMV EnduroGP of Spain to a winning close by claiming a hard-fought victory on day two. Earning the win by the smallest of margins, Phillips placed 0.29 seconds ahead of Nambotin with Holcombe less than one-second behind in what was a thrilling day-long battle for supremacy in the EnduroGP class. Just as on day one conditions in Puerto Lumbreras were incredibly tough with the dry and dusty ground affording riders little in the way of rest, especially on the event’s Extreme Test. With the day shortened to a little over two laps the second stop of the 2017 EnduroGP World Championship unquestionably proved to be a demanding one.

GARCIA, PHILLIPS, SORECA & SANZ WIN ON DAY ONE OF AMV SEGUROS ENDUROGP OF SPAIN

Matthew PHILLIPS ( AUS - Sherco)In complete contrast to the sub-zero conditions at the opening round of the 2017 EnduroGP World Championship series in Finland, the AMV GP of Spain served up extreme dust as the world’s best enduro racers battled not only one another but also the hugely challenging, arid Spanish terrain.

New winners topped the podium in all classes with Matt Phillips (Sherco) earning his first EnduroGP class win of the year. Locked in a two-rider battle with Steve Holcombe (Beta) the Tasmanian did just enough to top the results, placing less than three seconds ahead of his British rival.
