{"id":41817,"date":"2018-10-16T16:35:26","date_gmt":"2018-10-16T14:35:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.enduro.nl\/?p=41817"},"modified":"2018-10-16T16:35:26","modified_gmt":"2018-10-16T14:35:26","slug":"wess-pr-world-enduro-super-series-heads-to-sweden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/41817\/wess-pr-world-enduro-super-series-heads-to-sweden\/","title":{"rendered":"WESS PR &#8211; World Enduro Super Series Heads To Sweden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sweden To Welcome Thousands Of Riders For Gotland Grand National<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2018pb10-ggn-wess.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-41818\" src=\"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2018pb10-ggn-wess-235x148.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"148\" \/><\/a>With the battle to become this year\u2019s ULTIMATE ENDURO CHAMPION in full swing, the World Enduro Super Series heads to Sweden in a little over one week for the penultimate round of the 2018 season \u2013 the infamous Gotland Grand National.<br \/>\nContinuing the Cross-Country theme from round six, the championship now heads to its most northerly stop for Sweden\u2019s most prestigious race, where up to 3000 riders are expected to compete.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Now entering its 35th edition, the small island of Gotland, situated in the Baltic Sea off Sweden\u2019s east coast, will become a hub of Enduro activity and action during the final weekend of October.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2018pb10-ggn-wess2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-41819\" src=\"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2018pb10-ggn-wess2-235x157.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a>A \u2018must-do\u2019 race on the Swedish Enduro calendar, the Gotland Grand National has all the traits of a hallmark race, with literally thousands of competitors flocking to the island each year. Earning its title as the world\u2019s largest single day Enduro, a record-breaking 3,172 riders competed in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Situated on the Tolka military range, just south of Gotland\u2019s capital Visby, the 22-kilometre long Cross-Country course weaves its way through a maze of Scandinavian forestry.<\/p>\n<p>From typically Swedish rocky trails to technical, tree root covered forestry tracks, and with plenty of marshy wetlands in-between, the venue ensures a testing three-hour race for all competitors.<\/p>\n<p>First held back in 1984, it was Per Gr\u00f6nberg who first etched his name onto the winners list. Swedish legend Mats Nilsson entered the Gotland Grand National\u2019s winners list back in 1997 and has since gone on to become the event\u2019s most successful rider with eight victories. And by claiming a podium result in 2017, he is one rider who\u2019s never to be counted out.<\/p>\n<p>Two-time Enduro World Champion Pela Renet is another rider who ranks highly in Gotland history with four consecutive victories going the Frenchman\u2019s way from 2011 until 2014, while Australian Josh Strang claimed victory there in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>With the fight to become this year\u2019s ULTIMATE ENDURO CHAMPION nearing its climax, championship contenders Billy Bolt (Husqvarna &#8211; GB), Manuel Lettenbichler (KTM &#8211; GER) and Josep Garcia (KTM &#8211; ESP) will all be aiming to put their name at the top of this year\u2019s results.<\/p>\n<p>The World Enduro Super Series takes place at Sweden\u2019s Gotland Grand National on October 26\/27.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gotland Grand National Fast Facts<\/strong><br \/>\nGGN is the world\u2019s largest single day Enduro race<br \/>\n2016 saw the largest recorded attendance with 3,172 competitors<br \/>\nThe course is 22 kilometres long with a three-hour race distance for all classes<br \/>\nSwede Mats Nilsson is the event\u2019s most successful rider with eight victories<br \/>\nPela Renet has won the GGN four consecutive times from 2011-2014<br \/>\nCategories range from Youth to Elite, with a class for military bikes<br \/>\nApproximately 4000 hamburgers are served up during race weekend<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gotland Grand National 2017 Results<\/strong><br \/>\n1.
