Showing that he had the speed to win on day one,\u00a0<strong>Steve <\/strong>remained mistake free during the second day of competition to place just under seven seconds ahead of Finn <strong>Eero REMES\u00a0(TM)<\/strong> with enduro rookie <strong>Nathan WATSON (KTM)<\/strong> an impressive third.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">\u201c<em>I\u2019m made up with this result. I got close to winning on day one so to finally get the job done and a first EnduroGP win to my name is great,<\/em>\u201d enthused <strong>HOLCOMBE<\/strong>. \u201c<em>I enjoyed the day. The tests were pretty tough in places but the organisers did a great job in working on the track over night. I just kept pushing on all tests and everything went well.<\/em>\u201d Showing that as well as topping the Enduro 1 class podium he\u2019s also more than a match for the bigger bike riders in the <strong>EnduroGP <\/strong>class, 250f TM mounted Finn <strong>Eero REMES\u00a0<\/strong>pushed <strong>HOLCOMBE <\/strong>hard though out the day. Also 250f mounted, <strong>Nathan WATSON\u00a0<\/strong>enjoyed a good day. Despite his lack of enduro experience he again showed impressive speed to place just 15 seconds behind winner\u00a0<strong>HOLCOMBE<\/strong>. Behind <strong>WATSON <\/strong>US rider <strong>Taylor ROBERT\u00a0(KTM)<\/strong> excelled in conditions that were anything but familiar. Unable to repeat his day one winning result <strong>Matt PHILLIPS\u00a0(Sherco)<\/strong> placed in sixth with <strong>Mathias BELLINO<\/strong> bringing his Husqvarna home in ninth following a day full of mistakes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">As a result of their strong overall performances <strong>Eero REMES <\/strong>and <strong>Nathan WATSON<\/strong>\u00a0placed first and second in the Enduro 1 class with <strong>Jamie MCCANNEY (Yamaha) <\/strong>third. With just under nine seconds separating <strong>REMES <\/strong>and <strong>WATSON<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>MCCANNEY<\/strong> battled his way to a podium result more than one minute behind <strong>WATSON<\/strong>. <strong>Jamie<\/strong>\u2019s brother <strong>Danny MCCANNEY (Husqvarna)<\/strong> enjoyed his best day of the championship so far finishing fourth while <strong>Pascal RAUCHENECKER (Husqvarna) <\/strong>and <strong>Gianluca MARTINI <\/strong>rounded out the top six.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">Just four days into his first ever season of <strong>EnduroGP<\/strong> competition<strong> Taylor ROBERT\u00a0<\/strong>enjoyed his first winning result, impressively topping the Enduro 2 class aboard his KTM. Riding well throughout the day he placed ahead of <strong>Matt PHILLIPS<\/strong>\u00a0with <strong>Alex SALVINI (Beta)<\/strong> joining them on the podium. \u201c<em>All-in-all it\u2019s been a really good day for me,<\/em>\u201d explained\u00a0<strong>TAYLOR<\/strong>. \u201c<em>I lost some time to <strong>PHILLIPS <\/strong>early on but seemed to come good in the middle of the day. I had a good crash in the final extreme test as I was pushing hard to try and get onto the overall EnduroGP podium, but luckily I didn&#8217;t lose too much time and managed to get the win in Enduro 2.<\/em>\u201d <strong>Loic LARRIEU (Yamaha)<\/strong> finished closer to the Enduro 2 podium than on any previous day of the series so far, finishing just over five seconds behind third placed <strong>SALVINI<\/strong>. Separating Yamaha team mates <strong>LARRIEU\u00a0<\/strong>in fourth and <strong>Cristobal GUERRERO\u00a0<\/strong>in sixth was <strong>Mathias BELLINO<\/strong>. Enduring a difficult day the Frenchman placed 35 seconds behind winner <strong>ROBERT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">As the overall <strong>EnduroGP <\/strong>class winner <strong>Steve HOLCOMBE<\/strong> also topped the Enduro 3 class in dominant fashion. Close to one-minute ahead Italian <strong>Manuel MONNI (TM) Steve <\/strong>never placed lower than third in class during the day\u2019s nine special tests. Third went to <strong>Antoine BASSET (KTM) <\/strong>with local favourite <strong>Luis CORREIA (Beta)<\/strong> fourth,<strong> Jaume BETRIU (KTM) <\/strong>fifth and<strong>Thomas OLDRATI\u00a0(Husqvarna) <\/strong>sixth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">In the Enduro Junior class Italian <strong>Giacomo REDONDI (Honda)<\/strong> claimed a sizeable win, placing more than one minute ahead of <strong>Diogo VENTURA (Gas Gas)<\/strong>. Winning the day\u2019s first special test <strong>Josep GARCIA\u00a0(Husqvarna)<\/strong> was an early retirement as the Spaniard was forced to withdraw with a technical problem. Third went to Swede <strong>Albin ELOWSON (Husqvarna)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><strong>Erik APPELQVIST (Yamaha)<\/strong> was the day two winner in the 125cc Enduro Youth class, placing 25 seconds ahead of British rider <strong>Lee SEALEY (Yamaha)<\/strong>. Rounding out an all-Yamaha podium<strong> Jean-Baptiste NICOLOT\u00a0<\/strong>placed third.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">The <strong>EnduroGP <\/strong>championship now heads to <strong>Greece <\/strong>on May 20-22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"js-quickedit-page-title title page-title\"><strong><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-above\" data-quickedit-field-id=\"node\/387\/title\/en\/full\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Steve Holcombe wins big on day two of the GP of Portugal Video dag 2.
