With the<strong> GP Acerbis of Italy<\/strong>delivering a fantastic mix of special tests, great weather and a massively enthusiastic crowd, the competitors of the EWC were treated to a memorable days action.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Clocking up his third win in as many races, Husqvarna\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Pela RENET (F) <\/strong>claimed top honours in Enduro 2. Taking control of the lead on lap one, two mistakes saw him having to charge his way back in front. Despite closest rival\u00a0<strong>Antoine MEO (F-KTM)<\/strong> winning the final two tests,\u00a0<strong>RENET <\/strong>had enough in hand \u2013 seven seconds \u2013 to win the day.\u00a0<em>\u201cIt\u2019s been a close battle all day,<\/em>\u201d told\u00a0<strong>RENET<\/strong>.\u00a0<em>\u201cI got into the lead at the end of lap one, I think, then lost it on lap two with some mistakes. But I pushed hard on the third lap to get back in front. It\u2019s been good to put another win on the board.<\/em>\u201d Matching\u00a0<strong>RENET <\/strong>pace for pace,\u00a0<strong>MEO <\/strong>fought hard to keep in front but with\u00a0<strong>RENET <\/strong>proving strong on the penultimate lap,<strong>MEO <\/strong>had to be content with the runner-up result. Looking for a win on home turf, Honda\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Alex SALVINI <\/strong>wasn\u2019t able to offer the passionate crowd an Italian victory and instead took third. Continuing to place himself at the sharp end of the results, Spain\u2019s<strong> Jaume BETRIU (Husqvarna) <\/strong>ended his day in fourth with Sherco\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Loic LARRIEU (Sherco)<\/strong> completing the top five.<\/p>\n<p>Trailing\u00a0<strong>Mathias BELLINO (F-Husqvarna)<\/strong> by just one hundredth of a second in Friday\u2019s super test, KTM\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Matt PHILLIPS (AUS) <\/strong>got down to business on Saturday morning. Winning the first four special tests he opened up an 18-second advantage. Losing 10 seconds in the second extreme test,<strong>PHILLIPS <\/strong>quickly corrected the situation and pulled clear to win the day by over 43 seconds. \u201c<em>It was nearly an almost perfect day,<\/em>\u201d explained\u00a0<strong>PHILLIPS<\/strong>. \u201c<em>I won the first four tests this morning and that gave me a decent lead until I dropped it in the extreme test. I got a charge on again and was able to build it back up. I\u2019m pretty happy with that.<\/em>\u201d Faced with a highly motivated\u00a0<strong>PHILLIPS<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>BELLINO<\/strong>wasn\u2019t able to match the pace of his close competitor and had to settle for second. Back on the podium again, TM\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Aigar LEOK (EST) <\/strong>enjoyed a strong ride for third.\u00a0 Returning to action following his absence at the GP of Greece, France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Antoine BASSET (KTM)<\/strong> placed fourth. Spurred on by his home crowd, Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Oscar BALLETTI (KTM)<\/strong> completed the top five.<\/p>\n<p>Enduro 1 was the most competitive class of the day with the top four riders separated by just 21 seconds. Chasing his third win in a row, TM\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Eero REMES (FIN)<\/strong> faced a big fight with\u00a0<strong>Christophe NAMBOTIN (F-KTM) <\/strong>and early pace setter\u00a0<strong>Lorenzo SANTOLINO (S-Sherco)<\/strong>. Making almost no mistakes on the final lap,\u00a0<strong>REMES <\/strong>claimed the win.\u00a0<em>\u201cI\u2019m please to come away with my third win in a row,<\/em>\u201d commented\u00a0<strong>REMES<\/strong>. \u201c<em>The fight for the win was very close and the lead changed hands a few times. I just tried to do my best on the final lap and it was enough. It\u2019s been a good day.<\/em>\u201d Making life difficult for himself,\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN <\/strong>made a costly error on the opening extreme test. Forced to play catch up he worked his way back to second, but didn\u2019t have enough in hand to beat\u00a0<strong>REMES<\/strong>. In the battle for the final step of the podium, Husqvarna\u2019s<strong> Daniel MCCANNEY (GB)<\/strong> delivered a strong ride on the final lap to edge out\u00a0<strong>SANTOLINO <\/strong>for third. With\u00a0<strong>SANTOLINO <\/strong>dropping back to fourth, Yamaha\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Marc BOURGEOIS (F) <\/strong>ended his day in fifth.<\/p>\n<p>In the Enduro Juniors, Husqvarna\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Jamie MCCANNEY (GB)<\/strong> turned in a near flawless performance to secure the top step of the podium. Fast but just not quite able to challenge his fellow countryman, Beta\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Steve HOLCOMBE (GB)<\/strong> finished as runner-up. Off pace with the leading duo, Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Giacomo REDONDI (Beta)<\/strong> completed the top three.\u00a0 Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Matteo BRESOLIN (KTM)<\/strong> and Portugal\u2019s<strong> Luis OLIVEIRA (Yamaha)<\/strong> were fourth and fifth respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Mikael PERSSON (Yamaha) <\/strong>was the rider to beat in the Youth Cup class and recorded a commanding win.
