{"id":25489,"date":"2014-08-03T20:42:37","date_gmt":"2014-08-03T18:42:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.enduro.nl\/?p=25489"},"modified":"2014-08-03T20:42:37","modified_gmt":"2014-08-03T18:42:37","slug":"grand-prix-acerbis-of-italy-day-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/25489\/grand-prix-acerbis-of-italy-day-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Grand Prix Acerbis of Italy &#8211; Day 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Nambotin and Renet Crowned Champions In Italy<br \/>\n<\/strong>The\u00a0<strong>FIM Maxxis Enduro World Championship GP Acerbis of Italy<\/strong> drew to a celebratory close with both\u00a0<strong>Christophe NAMBOTIN<\/strong> and<strong> Pela RENET<\/strong> crowned Enduro 1 and Enduro 2 World Champions. With Day Two in\u00a0<strong>Lumezzane <\/strong>greeted with torrential rain and thunderstorms it was in fact both<strong>NAMBOTIN <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>RENET <\/strong>who weathered the storm best to clinch their respective titles. There was also delight for the home crowd as outgoing Enduro 2 champion\u00a0<strong>Alex SALVINI (Honda) <\/strong>picked up his second victory of the weekend.<!--more--><br \/>\nWith the E1 and E2 titles decided there was relative drama in the\u00a0<strong>Enduro 3<\/strong> category. After storming his way to victory on day one, championship leader\u00a0<strong>Matt PHILLIPS (AUS-KTM)<\/strong> was dealt a cruel blow on lap one when a piece of metal sliced his boot resulting in a broken foot. Forced out of the race, that threw open the doors for a new winner to emerge. Immediately taking the advantage, Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Oscar BALLETTI (KTM) <\/strong>found himself with the race lead and went on to win the day. \u201c<em>This in an incredible result for me,<\/em>\u201d exclaimed the Italian. \u201c<em>It\u2019s my first ever in the EWC \u2013 I\u2019m so, so happy.<\/em>\u201d Joining the EWC for Lumezzane, former Enduro 3 World Champion\u00a0<strong>David KNIGHT (KTM)<\/strong>also carded a surprise result on day two. Despite not contesting the EWC in almost 12 months \u2013<strong>KNIGHT <\/strong>placed a brilliant runner-up to\u00a0<strong>BALLETTI<\/strong> on Day Two. In a close finish to the day, France\u2019s<strong>Jeremy JOLY (KTM) <\/strong>chased\u00a0<strong>KNIGHT <\/strong>home for third. Securing his best result of the season, Italy\u2019s<strong>Simone ALBERGONI (KTM)<\/strong> was fourth. Unable to capitalise on championship rival\u00a0<strong>PHILLIP<\/strong>\u2019s shock exit, Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Ivan CERVANTES (KTM)<\/strong> ended his day in fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Needing just a handful of points to secure the\u00a0<strong>E1 <\/strong>title,\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN <\/strong>didn\u2019t have to fight for the victory. But determined to end his weekend on an absolute high he did exactly that. Winning all bar one of the day\u2019s nine special tests, the Frenchman ended his day as the winner and world champion. \u201c<em>This is a very special moment for me<\/em>,\u201d told the newly crowned E1 champ.\u00a0<em>\u201cRacing E1 was a big challenge for me \u2013 it was tough \u2013 but I always gave 100 per cent effort. To secure the title here in Italy is superb.<\/em>\u201d With\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN <\/strong>disappearing off into the distance, Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Cristobal GUERRERO<\/strong>added to the KTM celebrations by finishing as runner-up. Claiming his first podium result of the season \u2013 and doing so on home turf \u2013 Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Thomas OLDRATI (Husqvarna)<\/strong> claimed a well-deserved third. Sherco\u2019s<strong> Jeremy TARROUX (F)<\/strong> picked up fourth with\u00a0<strong>Jaume BETRIU (S-Husqvarna)<\/strong> completing the top five.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Enduro 2<\/strong> class it was\u00a0<strong>Alex SALVINI (Honda)<\/strong> who bagged his second victory of the weekend to cap off a memorable home race. \u201c<em>It\u2019s been a perfect weekend,<\/em>\u201d said\u00a0<strong>SALVINI<\/strong>. \u201c<em>Conditions were tough but I kept my focus and did what I needed to do to win. Congratulations also to Pela on winning the title \u2013 he\u2019s had a great year.<\/em>\u201d Enjoying the best ride of his career, Spain\u2019s<strong>Lorenzo SANTOLINO (Sherco) <\/strong>built on his previous day\u2019s result of third to finish second. Knowing he just needed to finish to secure the title,\u00a0<strong>RENET <\/strong>delivered a championship-winning ride on day two to place third. \u201c<em>No words can describe this moment,<\/em>\u201d declared\u00a0<strong>RENET<\/strong>. \u201c<em>Today was tough with the rain but I just concentrated on racing for the title. It\u2019s my second world championship and it\u2019s fantastic.<\/em>\u201d Delivering yet another competitive ride in his rare EWC appearance, KTM\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL)<\/strong>took fourth with\u00a0<strong>Oriol MENA (S-Beta) <\/strong>one place behind in fifth.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014pb08_lorenzo_santolino_EWC-2014-Rnd-6_2171.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-25490\" title=\"2014pb08_lorenzo_santolino_EWC 2014 Rnd 6_2171\" src=\"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014pb08_lorenzo_santolino_EWC-2014-Rnd-6_2171-150x100.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>The other nice surprise of the weekend: Lorenzo SANTOLINO<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Enduro Junior <\/strong>class it was\u00a0<strong>Daniel MCCANNEY\u2019s (GB-Beta)<\/strong> turn to climb to the top step of the podium. Edging out his championship rival<strong> Giacomo REDONDI (I-Beta) <\/strong>for first, the Manxman denied\u00a0<strong>REDONDI <\/strong>another possible home race win. With\u00a0<strong>REDONDI <\/strong>second, France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Loic LARRIEU (Husqvarna) <\/strong>made no mistakes this time around to place third. Recording a career best result, Great Britain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Jack ROWLAND (Husqvarna)<\/strong> was fourth with<strong> Guido CONFORTI (I-KTM) <\/strong>fifth.
