Australia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Matt PHILLIPS (KTM)<\/strong> took a convincing win in the Enduro 3 class on Day One. France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Christophe NAMBOTIN (KTM) <\/strong>edged one step closer to his first Enduro 1 world title with victory, while home favourite\u00a0<strong>Alex SALVINI (Honda) <\/strong>bagged a much deserved race win in the Enduro 2 category.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Taking control of the\u00a0<strong>Enduro 3<\/strong> class from the opening special test,\u00a0<strong>PHILLIPS <\/strong>was on a mission to win Day One in Lumezzane. Setting the fastest time in the first six of the day\u2019s nine tests,\u00a0<strong>PHILLIPS <\/strong>built up a sizeable lead and was never headed. \u201c<em>I\u2019m more than happy with how today\u2019s gone,<\/em>\u201d told\u00a0<strong>PHILLIPS<\/strong>. \u201cF<em>rom the start I did what I needed to do and charged hard to put myself out front. It feels great to have won.<\/em>\u201d Behind\u00a0<strong>PHILLIPS<\/strong>, the fight for the final two steps of the podium was intense. A rejuvenated\u00a0<strong>Aigar LEOK (EST -TM)<\/strong> was enjoying the best performance of his season to date and looked set for the runner-up result until a mistake on the final lap cost him second. Capitalising, Spain\u2019s<strong> Ivan CERVANTES (KTM)<\/strong> picked up the pieces to claim an important runner-up result. Despite missing out on second,\u00a0<strong>LEOK <\/strong>still recorded his first podium result of the series with third. Four seconds adrift of third, France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Jeremy JOLY (KTM)<\/strong> took fourth while home favourite\u00a0<strong>Simone ALBERGONI (KTM) <\/strong>claimed an impressive top five result.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014pb08_nambotin_italy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-25479\" title=\"2014pb08_nambotin_italy\" src=\"https:\/\/enduro.nl\/wordpress-enduronlnewsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014pb08_nambotin_italy-150x100.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Christophe NAMBOTIN is just one step closer from the title<\/em><br \/>\nFor\u00a0<strong>Enduro 1<\/strong> championship leader\u00a0<strong>Christophe NAMBOTIN<\/strong>, Day One in Lumezzane went to plan. Getting out front early on, NAMBOTIN steadily increased his advantage as the day progressed to claim the race win and move one step closer to wrapping up the title tomorrow. \u201c<em>It\u2019s been a good day,<\/em>\u201d explained\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN<\/strong>. \u201c<em>I rode steady, didn\u2019t make mistakes and just made sure I won. Hopefully tomorrow I can claim my first E1 title.<\/em>\u201d With\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN <\/strong>running away with things at the front, Sherco\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Anthony BOISSIERE (F)<\/strong> and Finland\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Eero REMES (TM)<\/strong> battled hard for the runner-up result. Keeping a slight gap over his Finnish rival throughout the day,\u00a0<strong>BOISSIERE <\/strong>placed a well-earned second to\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN<\/strong>. Not quite able to get on par with\u00a0<strong>BOISSIERE <\/strong>during the middle part of the day,\u00a0<strong>REMES <\/strong>had to settle for third. Still recovering from a recent elbow injury, Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Cristobal GUERRERO (KTM) <\/strong>dug deep to place fourth. Finishing just one-second behind, Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Thomas OLDRATI (Husqvarna) <\/strong>completed the top five.<\/p>\n<p>Finally putting a difficult season behind him, defending\u00a0<strong>Enduro 2 <\/strong>champion\u00a0<strong>Alex SALVINI (Honda) <\/strong>recorded his first win of the year and did so on home soil. Fighting his way into the lead at the end of lap one, the Italian kept his nose in front for the remainder of the day to win. \u201c<em>It feels fantastic to win again and it\u2019s perfect to do it in Italy,<\/em>\u201d confirmed\u00a0<strong>SALVINI<\/strong>. \u201c<em>It\u2019s been a difficult season for me, hopefully this win is the start of something good. I\u2019m excited for tomorrow.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0Slow to start, France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Pela RENET (Husqvarna)<\/strong> faced a tough fight during the opening half of the day to work his way into second. Upping his pace by winning three of the final four tests, the Husqvarna rider ended his day as runner-up to\u00a0<strong>SALVINI<\/strong>. Claiming a debut podium result in E2, Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Lorenzo SANTOLINO (Sherco)<\/strong> was third. In a result that\u2019s been building all season,\u00a0<strong>SANTOLINO <\/strong>delivered a consistent ride throughout the day to finish third.\u00a0 Stepping in last minute to compete, Poland\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Taddy BLAZUSIAK (KTM)<\/strong> was impressive. Holding a top three result for the first half of the day, a crash on the second enduro test dropped him down to fifth. Recovering strongly he fought back to fourth. Returning to EWC action following his recent injury, Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Oriol MENA (Beta)<\/strong> took fifth.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Enduro Junior<\/strong> class the day ended in delight for local man\u00a0<strong>Giacomo REDONDI (I-Beta)<\/strong>. Capitalising on a crash by close rival \u00a0<strong>Daniel MCCANNEY (GB-Beta) <\/strong>on the final test of the day, \u00a0<strong>REDONDI <\/strong>gladly claimed victory in front of his home crowd. Disappointed with letting a certain race win slip from his grasp,\u00a0<strong>MCCANNEY <\/strong>placed second. Ensuring it was a day to remember for the Italians, Honda\u2019s Alessandro BATTIG recorded his debut EWC podium with third. Picking up a one-minute time penalty, France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Loic LARRIEU (Husqvarna) <\/strong>slipped back to fourth while Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Eloi SALSENCH (KTM)<\/strong> rounded out the top five. Securing a lockout on the 125 Youth Cup podium, Italy claimed the top three spots. Recording his first win of the season,\u00a0<strong>Michele MARCHELLI (KTM) <\/strong>took the win.\u00a0<strong>David SORECA (Yamaha)<\/strong> picked up a time penalty that dropped him back to second while\u00a0<strong>Matteo BRESOLIN (KTM) <\/strong>ended his day in third.\u00a0<strong>Albin ELOWSON (SWE-Husqvarna) <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Benjamin HERRERA (CHL-TM) <\/strong>were fourth and fifth respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Phillips On Song In Lumezzane Matt PHILLIPS delivers the goods on Day One of the\u00a0FIM Maxxis Enduro World Championship GP Acerbis of Italy in\u00a0Lumezzane.
