The\u00a0Maxxis Enduro World Championship GP\u00a0Maxxis\u00a0of Greece<\/strong> ends in joy, as KTM\u2019s\u00a0Antoine MEO<\/strong>and\u00a0Christophe NAMBOTIN<\/strong> are crowned world champions in\u00a0Kastoria<\/strong>. With both riders claiming victory on day two in their respective classes,\u00a0MEO <\/strong>secured the Enduro 1 World Championship while\u00a0NAMBOTIN <\/strong>claimed the Enduro 3 World Championship. Moving one step closer to winning his first world title, Italy\u2019s Alex SALVINI (Honda) <\/strong>won the Enduro 2 class while France\u2019s\u00a0Loic LARRIEU (Husaberg) <\/strong>recorded his debut EWC win with victory in the Enduro Junior category.<\/p>\n

Despite needing to place 14th or better to secure the\u00a0E3 <\/strong>title, France\u2019s\u00a0Christophe NAMBOTIN<\/strong>quickly took control of the race lead at the end of the first lap. Setting the fastest time in nine of the day\u2019s 12 special tests the Frenchman rode into the Parc Ferme at the end of the day as victor and world champion. \u201cIt\u2019s incredible to win the championship again,<\/em>\u201d told\u00a0NAMBOTIN<\/strong>. \u201cI knew that I didn\u2019t need to win the race in order to secure the title but I was so comfortable in my riding that I wanted to take the title with a victory. I\u2019m so happy to be a world champion<\/em>.\u201d While\u00a0NAMBOTIN <\/strong>secured the race win the battle for the runner-up position was fought out between France\u2019s\u00a0Mathias BELLINO (Husaberg) <\/strong>and Estonia\u2019s Aigar LEOK (TM)<\/strong>. Overcoming a big crash on the final cross test,BELLINO <\/strong>held on to take second. Unable to capitalise on his rival\u2019s mistake,\u00a0LEOK <\/strong>completed the top three. Placing just two seconds behind\u00a0LEOK<\/strong>, Portugal\u2019s\u00a0Luis CORREIA (Beta) <\/strong>was fourth with Italy\u2019s\u00a0Deny PHILLIPAERTS (Beta)<\/strong> rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Enduro 1<\/strong> class the day belonged to France\u2019s\u00a0Antoine MEO<\/strong>. Topping all but one of the day\u2019s special tests,\u00a0MEO<\/strong> claimed his 11th win of the season. Placing over one-minute clear of his nearest rival, the KTM rider clinched his fourth consecutive enduro world championship. \u201cAside from one small mistake it was a perfect day for me,<\/em>\u201d told\u00a0MEO<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cIt feels great to win the title. It\u2019s been a great season. I worked hard all year for this moment \u2013 I\u2019m so happy right now.<\/em>\u201d In the fight for the runner-up result Spain\u2019s\u00a0Cristobal GUERRERO (KTM) <\/strong>edged out Italy\u2019s\u00a0Maurizio MICHELUZ (Suzuki) <\/strong>to take the position. Returning to the podium for the first time since the GP of Italy in 2008,MICHELUZ <\/strong>placed third.\u00a0 Losing out on the fight for a podium result, Finland\u2019s Matti SEISTOLA (Husqvarna)<\/strong> finished just one second behind\u00a0Micheluz <\/strong>to end his day in fourth. Sherco\u2019s\u00a0Jeremy TARROUX (F) <\/strong>rounded out the top five.<\/p>\n

Securing victory by the narrowest of margins, Alex SALVINI <\/strong>beat France\u2019s\u00a0Pela RENET (Husaberg)<\/strong>by three tenths of a second to take the\u00a0Enduro 2<\/strong>class win. With the duo locked in a fierce battle for the duration of the day it was the Honda rider\u2019s time in the final extreme test that ultimately secured him the win. \u201cI fought all day long withRenet <\/strong>for the victory,\u201d<\/em> remarked\u00a0SALVINI<\/strong>. \u201cEntering the final test there was nothing to separate us. Thankfully I just managed to do enough to win \u2013 that was one of the best races of the year.<\/em>\u201d Despite his best efforts,\u00a0RENET <\/strong>was unable to secure a double E2 victory at the GP of Greece and had to settle for second position. Completing the top three Spain\u2019s\u00a0Ivan CERVANTES (KTM) <\/strong>took third. KTM\u2019s\u00a0Johnny AUBERT (F)<\/strong> ended his day in fourth with Spain\u2019s Victor GUERRERO (KTM) <\/strong>completing the top five.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Enduro Junior<\/strong> class a new winner emerged as France\u2019s\u00a0Loic LARRIEU (Husaberg)<\/strong> fended off Italy\u2019s\u00a0Giacomo REDONDI (KTM)<\/strong> to take the win. With\u00a0REDONDI <\/strong>finishing second, Australia\u2019sMatt PHILLIPS (Husqvarna) <\/strong>placed just four tenths of a second behind the Italian to complete the top three. Manxman\u00a0Danny MCCANNEY (Gas Gas) <\/strong>was fourth with Italy\u2019s\u00a0Nicolo MORI (Beta)<\/strong>ending his day in fifth. In the Enduro Youth Cup Sweden\u2019s\u00a0Albin ELOWSON (Husaberg)<\/strong> took his first win of the season. Benefiting from the retirement of day one winner\u00a0Jamie MCCANNEY (GB-Husaberg)<\/strong> the young Swede held off Italy\u2019s\u00a0Davide SORECA (YAMAHA) <\/strong>for victory. Chile\u2019sBenjamin HERRERA (TM)<\/strong> rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n
