Manxman\u00a0<strong>Jamie MCCANNEY (Husaberg) <\/strong>continued his run of wins by topping the Enduro Youth Cup class. With the<strong>GP of Romania <\/strong>featuring the first true woodland based enduro test it was actually the tricky extreme test that caused quite an upset. On the opening lap many riders were caught off guard by the steep slippery grassy climbs and the technical rocky uphill. Unfortunately, the day also featured some notable retirements as\u00a0<strong>David KNIGHT (GB-Honda) <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Manuel Monni (I-KTM) <\/strong>both succumbed to injury.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Enduro 2<\/strong> category the day belonged to KTM\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Johnny AUBERT<\/strong>. After his injury at the GP of Portugal, the Frenchman finally enjoyed some good fortune. Maintaining a strong advantage throughout the day, the KTM rider secured his first victory of the season. \u201c<em>It\u2019s been a really great day for me,<\/em>\u201d confirmed\u00a0<strong>AUBERT<\/strong>. \u201c<em>Despite not being able to ride since the GP of Portugal due to my broken ribs I felt very comfortable on the bike. I didn\u2019t make any major mistakes and that helped me to win.<\/em>\u201d After a strong start to his day by winning the first enduro test and cross test, Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Alex SALVINI (Honda) <\/strong>saw his lead evaporate with numerous crashes on the first enduro test. Losing valuable time, the Italian eventually recovered to end his day as runner-up to\u00a0<strong>AUBERT<\/strong>.\u00a0 Delivering a strong ride in the latter half of the day, France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Pela RENET (Husaberg)<\/strong> placed within five seconds of<strong>SALVINI <\/strong>to claim third position. Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Ivan CERVANTES (KTM) <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Oriol MENA (Husaberg)<\/strong>completed the top five.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing his winning ways in the\u00a0<strong>Enduro 3<\/strong> class,\u00a0<strong>Christophe NAMBOTIN (KTM)<\/strong> claimed a comfortable 29-second margin of victory. Setting the fastest time in seven of the day\u2019s 11 special tests, the Frenchman overcame a crash on the final extreme test and won the day. \u201c<em>I\u2019m pleased with how I rode today,<\/em>\u201d commented\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN<\/strong>. \u201c<em>Despite some small mistakes and then a really big one on the final extreme test I felt good on my bike. This win was important for the championship.<\/em>\u201d Continuing to impress in his debut season in the Senior ranks, Husaberg\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Mathias BELLINO (F)<\/strong>claimed the runner-up result to\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN<\/strong>. Fastest on the extreme test,\u00a0<strong>BELLINO <\/strong>now looks to be over his wrist injury that slowed him during the early part of the season. Still suffering from injuries sustained during the GP of Spain and Portugal, Estonia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Aigar LEOK (TM)<\/strong> gritted his teeth to end his day on the podium in third position. Placing just 10 seconds behind\u00a0<strong>Leok<\/strong>, France\u2019s<strong>Fabien PLANET (Sherco) <\/strong>claimed his best result of the season with fourth position. Portugal\u2019s<strong> Luis CORREIA (Beta) <\/strong>rounded out the top five.<\/p>\n<p>Struggling to find his rhythm on the opening lap, KTM\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Antoine MEO <\/strong>picked up his pace during the second half of the day to beat Finland\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Juha SALMINEN (Husqvarna) <\/strong>by seven seconds and take the win. \u201c<em>It\u2019s been a strange day for me<\/em>,\u201d told<strong>MEO<\/strong>. \u201c<em>I couldn\u2019t get going this morning. I didn\u2019t feel comfortable on the bike and was finding it hard to match Juha\u2019s pace. Then as the day progressed things began to feel better and I was able to challenge for the lead. It\u2019s a relief to have won.<\/em>\u201d Holding the upper hand over his rival during the during the opening lap,\u00a0<strong>SALMINEN <\/strong>was unable to match\u00a0<strong>MEO<\/strong>\u2019S pace during the final stages of the day and was forced to settle for second position.\u00a0 In the battle for the final step of the podium Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Cristobal GUERRERO (KTM)<\/strong> delivered a strong final lap to beat Finland\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Eero REMES (TM)<\/strong> by less than three seconds and claim third pushing\u00a0<strong>REMES <\/strong>back to fourth. Despite suffering a badly injured toe Finland\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Matti SEISTOLA (Husqvarna) <\/strong>gritted his teeth to finish the day in fifth place.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Enduro Junior<\/strong> class,\u00a0<strong>Mario ROMAN (Husaberg) <\/strong>dominated his class to secure his debut win by over one-minute. Despite falling victim to the tricky rock sections on the extreme test,\u00a0<strong>Matt PHILLIPS (Husqvarna) <\/strong>regrouped to place as runner-up to\u00a0<strong>ROMAN<\/strong>.\u00a0 Returning to the podium for the first time since South America, Manxman\u00a0<strong>Danny MCCANNEY (Gas Gas)<\/strong> ended his day four seconds behind\u00a0<strong>PHILLIPS <\/strong>to place third. Sweden\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Robert KVARNSTROM (Beta)<\/strong> and Italy\u2019s<strong>Giacomo Redondi (KTM) <\/strong>completed the top five.<br \/>\nSetting the quickest time in all but three of the day\u2019s special tests\u00a0<strong>Jamie MCCANNEY (Husaberg)<\/strong>claimed another win in the Enduro Youth class. Sweden\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Albin ELOWSON (Husaberg) <\/strong>and Chilean\u00a0<strong>Benjamin HERRERA (TM) <\/strong>placed second and third respectively. Sweden\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Jesper BORJESSON (Husaberg) <\/strong>and France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Mika BARNES (KTM)<\/strong> rounded out the top five.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Women\u2019s Cup Laia SANZ (Honda) <\/strong>again proved unbeatable and topped her class by over five minutes. Australia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Jessica GARDINER (Sherco) <\/strong>beat France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Juliette BERREZ (Yamaha) <\/strong>by over one-minute to place as runner-up to\u00a0<strong>Sanz<\/strong>.
