France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Antoine MEO (KTM)<\/strong> claimed a hard fought win in the Enduro 1 class while KTM\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Christophe NAMBOTIN<\/strong> won the Enduro 3 class. <!--more-->In the Enduro Junior category a new winner emerged with EWC rookie<strong> Matt PHILLIPS (Husqvarna) <\/strong>earning his debut victory. Britain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Jamie MCCANNEY (Husaberg) <\/strong>stood on the top step of the podium in the Enduro Youth Cup class. With temperatures reaching as high as 28 degrees in\u00a0<strong>San Juan<\/strong>, it was a tough day for all of the world\u2019s best enduro riders as they completed four loops of physically demanding terrain.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Enduro 2 <\/strong>class it was another victory for the hard charging\u00a0<strong>Alex SALVINI (Honda)<\/strong>. Engaged in a close battle with France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Pela RENET (Husaberg)<\/strong>, the Italian eventually secured the win. \u201c<em>It was a close fight all day with\u00a0<strong>Renet <\/strong>for the win,<\/em>\u201d confirmed\u00a0<strong>SALVINI<\/strong>. \u201c<em>We were pushing hard all day and the lead changed hands many times. On the last lap I managed to open up a comfortable advantage that was enough to win.<\/em>\u201d Although challenging\u00a0<strong>SALVINI <\/strong>throughout the day,\u00a0<strong>RENET <\/strong>was unable to hold the Honda rider at bay and had to be content with the runner-up position. After his poor result in the Friday SuperTest, France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Johnny AUBERT (KTM)<\/strong> steadily worked his way back into contention to take a well earned podium result with third overall. Spain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Ivan CERVANTES (KTM) <\/strong><strong>ended his day just over four seconds behind\u00a0<strong>AUBERT <\/strong>to claim fourth with Britain\u2019s\u00a0<strong><strong>David KNIGHT (Honda)<\/strong> <\/strong>completing the top five.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Christophe NAMBOTIN (KTM) <\/strong>again proved to be the rider to beat in the Enduro 3 category. Winning 11 of the day\u2019s 14 special tests, the defending champion convincingly topped the E3 classification. \u201c<em>It\u2019s been a perfect day,<\/em>\u201d remarked\u00a0<strong>NAMBOTIN<\/strong>. \u201c<em>I only made two small crashes but was fortunate not to lose much time. My bike was fantastic all day.<\/em>\u201d In the battle for second position, Estonia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Aigar LEOK (TM) <\/strong>delivered a solid pace to beat Portugal\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Luis CORREIA (Beta)<\/strong> to the runner-up result. Looking extremely comfortable in the terrain,\u00a0<strong>CORREIA <\/strong>ended day one in third overall to secure his first podium result of his enduro career. Missing out on third position by less than three seconds, Sweden \u2019s\u00a0<strong>Joakim LJUNGGREN (Husaberg) <\/strong>was fourth with France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Rodrig THAIN (Gas Gas)<\/strong> rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After a hard fought battle with Finland\u2019s\u00a0<strong><strong>Juha SALMINEN (Husqvarna)<\/strong>, <strong>MEO<\/strong> <\/strong>took his third race win of the new season. Making two costly mistakes on the opening lap, the Frenchman capitalised on an error by<strong> <\/strong><strong><strong>SALMINEN<\/strong> <\/strong>to level the scores at the end of lap two. Making no further mistakes,\u00a0<strong>MEO <\/strong>raced on to take the win. \u201c<em>It was a difficult day but it\u2019s great to come out on top,<\/em>\u201d commented\u00a0<strong>MEO<\/strong>. \u201c<em>I crashed twice on the opening lap and had to fight hard to win.<\/em>\u201d Leading midway through the day,\u00a0<strong>SALMINEN <\/strong>looked on course to take victory. But after loosing the use of his rear brake during the extreme test, the Finn lost his advantage over\u00a0<strong>MEO<\/strong>. Unable to recover the lost time, the Husqvarna rider ended his day in second . Securing his second podium result of the year, Finland\u2019s\u00a0<strong><strong>Matti SEISTOLA (Husqvarna)<\/strong><\/strong> placed third overall. Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong><strong>Thomas OLDRATI (Husaberg)<\/strong><\/strong> narrowly beat fifth placed\u00a0<strong><strong>Eero REMES (TM)<\/strong><\/strong> to take fourth overall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Enduro Junior<\/strong> category, EWC rookie\u00a0<strong>Matt PHILLIPS (Husqvarna) <\/strong>recorded his first win of the season. Regrouping strongly after a costly crash in the SuperTest, the 19-year old Australian fought back to win.\u00a0 Finishing six seconds behind the Husqvarna rider, Britain\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Danny MCCANNEY (Gas Gas) <\/strong>placed second with Italy\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Giacomo REDONDI (KTM)<\/strong> completing the top three. Portugal\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Luis OLIVERIA (YAMAHA)<\/strong> ended his day in fourth with Australia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Mitch HARPER (Honda)<\/strong> rounding out the top five.<br \/>\nIn the Enduro Youth Cup class,\u00a0<strong>Jamie MCCANNEY (Husaberg) <\/strong>took his first win of the season.
