Video dag 1<\/a><\/strong> \"\"<\/a>Dominated by dry and dusty conditions, the opening round of the 2013\u00a0FIM Maxxis Enduro World Championship<\/strong> got off to a spectacular start in\u00a0Talca<\/strong>, Chile.
\nOf the world\u2019s best enduro riders it was KTM\u2019s\u00a0Antoine Meo<\/strong> and Husaberg\u2019s\u00a0Pela Renet <\/strong>and\u00a0Joakim Ljunggren <\/strong>that claimed victory in the Enduro 1, Enduro 2 and Enduro 3 classes. In the Enduro Junior category, Italy\u2019s\u00a0Giacomo Redondi (KTM) <\/strong>topped the standings\u2019 while\u00a0Benjamin Herrera (TM) <\/strong>gave Chile reason to celebrate by winning the Enduro Youth Cup class.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Enduro 1<\/strong> class, defending champion\u00a0Meo <\/strong>got his season off to a perfect start by securing victory on day one. Facing an early challenge from Finland\u2019s Juha Salminen (Husqvarna)<\/strong>, the KTM rider gradually extended his lead as the day progressed to take an eventual 28-second margin of victory.
\n\u201cI\u2019m really happy to win day one in Chile,\u201d commented Meo. \u201cI just tried to ride smooth and make no mistakes. In the end it all worked out for me to win.<\/em>\u201d
\nAlthough providing an early challenge to\u00a0Meo<\/strong>,\u00a0Salminen <\/strong>was unable to maintain his fast pace as the day progressed and had to settle for the runner-up position. Following a costly crash on the opening extreme test, Finland\u2019s\u00a0Matti Seistola (Husqvarna) <\/strong>battled hard all day to recover from his mistake and ended the day in third.
\nFinishing just four seconds behind\u00a0Seistola<\/strong>, France\u2019s\u00a0Jeremy Joly (Honda)<\/strong> was fourth with Yamaha\u2019s\u00a0Nicolas Deparrois <\/strong>rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Enduro 2<\/strong> class,\u00a0Renet <\/strong>held off KTM\u2019s\u00a0Johnny Aubert <\/strong>to take the win. With\u00a0Aubert <\/strong>winning each of the day\u2019s three cross tests, Renet fought back by setting impressive times in the enduro test to secure a four-second win.
\n\u201cIt was a tough fight all day with\u00a0Aubert<\/strong>,\u201d remarked\u00a0Renet<\/strong>. \u201cHe was quicker than me in the cross test but I was able to find some good lines in the enduro test to take the win.<\/em>\u201d
\nNarrowly missing out on the first victory of the season,\u00a0Aubert <\/strong>was forced to settle for second. By setting the fastest time in the day\u2019s final extreme test Italy\u2019s\u00a0Alex Salvini (Honda)<\/strong> finished on the third step of the podium. Engaged in a daylong battle with Spain\u2019s\u00a0Ivan Cervantes (KTM)<\/strong>,\u00a0Salvini <\/strong>capitalised on a mistake by the Spaniard to finish third.
\nPlacing less than three seconds behind\u00a0Salvini<\/strong>,\u00a0Cervantes <\/strong>ended his day fourth, with Britain\u2019s\u00a0David Knight (Honda)<\/strong> rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n

Taking his first race win since the snow covered GP of Sweden in 2009, Husaberg\u2019s\u00a0Joakim Ljunggren<\/strong> won theEnduro 3 <\/strong>category. Feeling comfortable in the dry and dusty terrain, the Swede topped three of the day\u2019s ten special tests to secure victory.
\n\u201cI\u2019m so happy to have won,<\/em>\u201d told\u00a0Ljunggren <\/strong>following the podium celebrations. \u201cAfter a couple of difficult races in the SuperEnduro series, I\u2019m delighted to have started the EWC so strongly by winning.<\/em>\u201d
\nAlthough claiming four special test wins, France\u2019s\u00a0Christophe Nambotin (KTM) <\/strong>was hampered by numerous crashes and had to be content with second position. Ending his day over 40 seconds behind Nambotin, Estonia\u2019s\u00a0Aigar Leok (TM)<\/strong>completed the podium with third place.
\nAfter more than one-hour of special test racing, France\u2019sRodrig Thain (Gas Gas)<\/strong> placed less than six tenths of a second behind Leok to finish fourth. Portugal\u2019s\u00a0Luis Correia (Beta) <\/strong>rounded out the top five.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Enduro Junior <\/strong>class, it was the 2012 Enduro Youth Cup champion\u00a0Redondi <\/strong>that took the win. Britain\u2019s\u00a0Danny McCanney (Gas Gas)<\/strong> finished as runner-up to\u00a0Redondi <\/strong>with Sweden\u2019s\u00a0Robert Kvarnstrom (Beta) <\/strong>ending his day in third.
\nFrance\u2019s\u00a0Loic Larrieu (Husaberg) <\/strong>claimed fourth with Australia\u2019s\u00a0Matthew Phillips (Husqvarna) <\/strong>taking fifth.
\nLocal favourite\u00a0Benjamin Herrera (TM) <\/strong>secured victory in the Enduro Youth Cup class. Britain\u2019s\u00a0Jamie McCanney (Husaberg)<\/strong>and Portugal\u2019s\u00a0Henrique Nogueira (TM)<\/strong> completed the top three.<\/p>\n
